In need of a little peace & quiet?

De Denne Country Guesthouse Uplifts Local Communities & Empowers Staff with Renewed Commitment To Eco Friendly & Sustainable Environmental Practices.

Denne Country Guesthouse is a celebrated 4-star country guesthouse just outside Oudtshoorn in the drought-stricken Klein Karoo. The distinguished accommodation provider and celebrated tour facilitator has this week announced that management has taken drastic steps to adhere to sustainable environmental practises.

“Five years ago, we prepared our olive grove with strictly organic feeding and growing systems, which means no chemical treatment of the soil or fertiliser. The trees are treated with only natural pesticides, including Epson salt”, says owner Louise Keller.

The Guesthouse offers cold pressed olive oil on site produced from their own pesticide-free olive trees. The vegetable garden is 100% organic and does not rely on any foreign chemicals or pesticides that have been proven to harm the environment. A balanced and dynamic mixture of used filter coffee, tea bags, chicken egg shells, organic compost, and banana peels is mixed into the fertile soil, feeding it with rich microbes and the perfect balance of minerals to ensure great-tasting and nutritious organic produce that does not damage the environment.

“Everything we do is focused on organic! We have removed plastic drinking straws and our take-away containers are now manufactured from bio-degradable materials. Our in-room amenities are produced from natural and locally-sourced Rooibos, which is soft to the touch and not damaging to humans, animals, insects, or the environment as a whole.” – Louise Keller

Further testament to their commitment to eco care, the guesthouse relies on a tried and tested blend of washing powder, baking soda and coarse salt. Instead of vulgar store-bought fabric softener, the guesthouse uses white vinegar as a softener, leaving linen and towels soft, fresh, and fragrant.

“To further minimize our carbon footprint and raise awareness with guests, we answered the Spekboom challenge by planting Spekboom trees all over the property. These low-maintenance oxygen-giving plants also feature outside all the guest rooms and communal spaces.”

Management is committed to uplifting our dedicated team members and implements a comprehensive skills development program to uplift and empower our local communities. Every member of staff (managers, waiters, and kitchen staff) are offered valuable and comprehensive computer literacy training, which includes, Internet, email, basic MS office training, and guest relations. “We are committed to eco tourism and follow our sustainability policies with a fervour next to none. The time for change is now!”, concludes owners, Louise & Johan Keller .
